The magical pull of Monhegan…

View from the room at the Island Inn, Monhegan Island, ME

I realize I’m starting to sound like a broken record, BUT… I miss Monhegan! I know others are with me in this feeling! (Fred, Mery, Scott, Hank, John!) It’s a strange pull the island has on you. First of all you either love it or hate it. Miss it or can’t wait to see it in the far distance while you’re on the boat getting the h-e-double-toothpicks outta there! We met a nice couple a few years ago that absolutely freaked that there was no radio, no TV and no telephones in the room. Then when they found out there were no hair dryers I thought they were going to jump and swim with their luggage slowly floating to their final destination, ha ha… They asked us what they were supposed to do for entertainment. (Little did they know, THEY were OUR entertainment that night, ha ha). We tried to explain that hiking to the other side of the island was absolutely beautiful and would show them a view so different from the side they came in on, which is equally as beautiful but oh so dangerous. One side is in the ‘hustle and bustle’ (hee hee to those who know) and the other side seems like its beautiful but can be treacherous given the right weather conditions. It’s an ADVENTURE people, you have to go outside to see it! Ugh… they didn’t stay long, which is OK, it’s not for everyone. We know just as many people who are becoming like family, they feel the pull that the island can make you feel. They cannot wait to get back to that magical haven. We look forward to seeing you all again! Until next time…
